Commercial case study · Doncaster · Warehouse refurbishment

One team for blast preparation, primer and intumescent protection.

HB Tunnelling needed a one-stop solution for warehouse steelwork as part of a wider refurbishment. A five-person multi-skilled team abrasive blasted the structure, applied primer straight after preparation and completed intumescent fire-protective coating in carefully planned same-day stages.

The requirement

A one-stop route from exposed steel to fire-protected structure.

HB Tunnelling required the warehouse steelwork to be shot blasted, fireproof painted and readied alongside the wider roof refurbishment before operation. Primer needed to follow blasting immediately, avoiding avoidable exposure that could compromise coating adhesion.

Coordinated delivery

From blast clean to intumescent protection in planned stages.

01

One team, complete steelwork package

The delivery covered surface preparation, primer and intumescent fire protection, avoiding a gap between separate blasting and coating scopes.

02

Abrasive blasting from elevated access

The existing steelwork was abrasive blasted from elevated access equipment to prepare it for protection.

03

Primer applied straight after preparation

As each area was prepared, primer was applied immediately to protect the prepared steel from contamination or deterioration before the next stage.

04

Intumescent fire protection applied in sequence

Intumescent fire-protective paint followed as part of the same coordinated delivery, maintaining continuous progress and reducing unnecessary handovers.

The film shows blasting on warehouse steelwork from a boom lift, followed by protective-coating application from elevated access. It then shows aerial views of the refurbishment site and a closing Premier Blasting identity frame. The film is provided for project context; any site-specific method remains subject to assessment.
